Hydrating Skin & Body Care Tips in Winter | On The Glow

Stay Hydrated in Winter | Ah we’re dreading the winter – dark, cold and dreary but honestly our skin doesn’t have look like that. Muna has four quick hydrating ways that you can incorporate in your busy schedule to maintain a bright and healthy radiant glow!

1. HYDRATING FOODS
Try fruits and vegetables that are high in water content like watermelon, cantaloupe, apples, oranges, kiwi, and watery veggies like celery, tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, and carrots, these can help hydrate your skin from the inside out.

Consuming foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids may lead to smoother, younger-looking skin with a visible reduction in inflammatory skin conditions like acne and psoriasis. These fats are especially generous in cold-water fatty fish such as sardines, salmon, mackerel, tuna, anchovies, and black cod, among many others. Also, consider an omega-3 supplement and flaxseed to give your skin the building blocks it needs to appear supple and smooth.

2. HYDRATING DIY MASKS & SCRUBS
There are plenty of face masks in the market that helps hydrates skin deeply and prevents it from getting dry even in the cold winter weather. You can also make your own at own. So I made this really simple DIY moisturizing body scrub – two ingredients – coconut sugar and coconut oil. Sugar will helps scrub off the dead skin cells while the coconut oil will moisturize skin. Love to hear your thoughts on how you react to coconut oil on your skin. I use only on my body – not my face.

For a simple but so effective DIY facemask that I found online – is a Turmeric Avocado Face Mask – three ingredients

Avocado, turmeric, and plain yogurt
• 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
• 1 tbsp avocado
• 1 tsp yogurt (preferably plain, organic yogurt, such as Greek yogurt)
• 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)

3. HYDRATING SKINCARE
Let’s talk skincare! I have sensitive skin, so I invest in quality products, most of which are organic, non-toxic and hypoallergenic and here’s what I suggest you should have in your skincare routine:

• Hydrating cleanser
• Serum
• Hydrating moisturizer
• Exfoliator
• Sun Protector (absolute)

My dermatologist told me never to bath/shower in hot water as it steals away the moisture of the skin and makes it dry. So make sure you use lukewarm water for bath and showers in the winter. Don’t forget to immediately moisturize the skin after shower, when your skin is damp. I love to experiment. There are a lot of skincare routines out there; please do what bests work for you.

4. HYDRATE THE AIR
Lastly, invest in a humidifier in your home as radiators and heaters can leave the air dry. And since we really can’t control the outside environment, we can take care inside our environment. Keep your home.
